(album review)Silent Kingdom-“Where Secrets Meet”(Darknagar Records)

The local scene is where your true love to the underground scene begins and where you start to build your underground network of bands, people, label, promoters, zines… This time I will review the new Silent Kingdom record. This band comes from Sarajevo, the capitol of Bosnia.

“Where Secrets Meet” was released on independent Russian label Darknagar Records and contains 8 songs. This band was founded in 1999.combining the history of Bosnia, the native music called sevdalinka or sevdah and black metal. That was the case with earlier releases, at least I think because I did not hear this band until this album. This is no black metal, this is atmospheric folk metal with sevdalinka and other traditional melodies that this band is influenced by. The lyrics are partly in native language, partly in English. This music is not for the fans of folk black metal and harder side of things. This is more atmospheric music with the clever use of dual male/female vocals and keyboards and other additional instruments which fit into picture nicely. I must admit that I was not impressed upon the first listening of the album. But, the night has fallen and as I write this article, the music of Silent Kingdom feels great.
